Sit Your Old Asses Down

Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Mitch McConnell and White Sox/Bulls Owner Jerry Reinsdorf can take several seats for the sake of all of us.

American citizens who are Democrats and Republicans finally agree on something. Diane Feinstein, 90 and Mitch McConnell, 81 need to sit their old asses down somewhere. It is sad that it has taken this to get the American public to finally see something in a non-partisan way, but it is true. We have all grown tired of old ass people holding onto positions well past their expiration dates. We are also tired of their enablers, that being their staff members, who are covering for their past-their-prime bosses. Watching McConnell freeze midsentence twice in the last two months in front of the press, while his staffers try and make excuses is leading to questions of how often this is happening to him.

In the case of Feinstein, we don’t really know what is going on with her because she is being hidden behind closed doors like she is the Wizard of Oz. What we do know is her net worth has increased tremendously in the 31 years she has been in office, according to an article in Newsweek.  Those who are inebriated on power are not going to ever stop themselves. That means it is up to the public and media to step in. I blame the voters in McConnell and Feinstein’s respective districts for not using common sense when voting, but they are not alone.

When I lived in Chicago, I lived in Bobby Rush’s district, another politician who served well past his time, oftentimes because he ran unopposed or against an opponent who no one had heard of. When I told people I was refusing to vote in elections with Rush on the ballot, people in my community told me I had to vote because my ancestors died for the right. My response was, “when you give me something to vote for then I will show up at the polls. My ancestors were not fools.” That was in 2014. Rush just retired in January after 15 terms in office and a plethora of documented health issues. He is 76.

Why do we not have a MANDATORY retirement age for members of the House, the Senate and hell even for the President. We have minimum age requirements for those positions. Joe Biden is 80 and Donald Trump is 77 for the love of Christ and these are the two leading candidates to be the President of the United States?

I’m sorry but this is on the American public. We have allowed this nonsense to go on instead of standing up to your party leaders and telling them, “find someone else or I’m not participating.” Think about it for a second, most Americans retire from their jobs at 65. So why are we allowing people in public leadership positions to hang onto those spots when they’ve already got one foot in the grave?

It is not just politicians that need to have the keys to the car taken away from them. How about Jerry Reinsdorf, the owner of the Chicago Bulls and White Sox who sits on his hands and refuses to address the fans (his customers) through the media regarding his two spiraling sports franchises that are underachieving and an embarrassment. The 87 year-old has canceled the White Sox’s fan fest now for two years in a row because he is afraid of the backlash for being a bad owner. Two people were shot inside Guaranteed Rate Field last week. We have yet to hear anything from Reinsdorf with the exception of him wanting to move the team to another location so he and his cronies on the board can make more money by owning a stadium and all of the property around it. His lease at Guaranteed Rate Field doesn’t expire for another six years, at which time he will be 93. His lease on life could end sooner, just like the rest of us, but I guess you gotta plan for your future.

Jesse Jackson Sr. finally stepped down from leading the Rainbow/Push Coalition years after the community wanted him to. He will be 82 in October. He didn’t get the hint nine years ago when the young people in Ferguson, Missouri booed, taunted and blatantly told him to go home when he showed up to a protest for Michael Brown. They deemed him ineffective then as he is now. Truth of the matter is I’ve been calling for Jackson to leave long before that. He blew up his credibility when he was creeping in the bushes with a staffer and creating a child outside of his marriage at the age of 59, too old to still be doing dumb shit, not to mention all of the proven allegations that were highlighted in investigative reporter Ken Zimmerman’s book “Shakedown: Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson.” A glorified con-artist that has made his entire career earnings off of Black people’s pain, Jackson and his equally corrupt family members have served themselves quite well, while claiming to represent the community. They should have been jettisoned from public leadership positions, instead the community just elected Jonathan Jackson to replace none other than the aforementioned Bobby Rush. Go figure.

Then there is that one person we can all relate to in the Black community. That pastor who has “mentored” 31 associate pastors but refuses to get out of the pulpit after 50 years. The congregation’s numbers have dwindled down to 23 people in the pews on Sunday morning in a church that seats 700, but the deacon board refuses to take action. Nobody understands or can relate to the sermon, but “pastor” is still up there talking while the offering plate is getting lighter by the week.

Yes, it can be difficult to tell our older relatives it is time for them to slow down and pass the torch. However, it is necessary in order to move a society or family forward. Life changes. We all only get to be in our prime for so long. We must pass the torch to the next generation.

Working together to achieve a common goal for the nation, the USA men’s and women’s 4x100 track teams brought home Gold from the World Championships in Hungary.

Last week, the USA men’s and women’s 4x100 track teams brought home the Gold from the World Championships in Hungry. They worked as a team with precision, communication and speed better than anyone else in the world. They used a combination of young stars like Tamari Davis and Noah Lyles along with veteran Fred Kerley to win, proving that none of us can do it all by ourselves. Remember, when your time is up, pass the baton and get the hell outta the way please.
